At the very tip of Cap d'Antibes, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc has been welcoming guests since 1870. Its restaurant Louroc received new interior design in 2020, a star in the Guide Michelin and a chef who learned the trade under Roger Vergé.

On 26 February 1870, a hundred guests arrived by special train from Nice to the headland at the very tip of Cap d'Antibes. They were to inaugurate Villa Soleil, the writer's home that Hippolyte de Villemessant, the founder of Le Figaro, had dreamed of. From the villa grew Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, and today the hotel's restaurant Louroc lies in the same park of pines, with the Mediterranean and the Lérins Islands before it.

Louroc has one star in the Guide Michelin France 2026. The inspectors write that the legendary palace has given its restaurant every chance: attentive service, sea views and a chef who prepares dishes of perfect legibility.

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc – a hotel for 150 years

The hotel's history is the Riviera's history. In 1887, the young hotelier Antoine Sella from Piedmont found the abandoned Grand Hôtel du Cap, and in January 1889 he reopened it. In 1914, he built the Eden-Roc pavilion by the water and a saltwater pool in the rock. In 1929, the 33 cabanas on the rocks were added. Read the full story in our portrait of Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

According to Oetker Collection, which owns the hotel, Picasso, Chagall and F. Scott Fitzgerald are among its early guests. In Fitzgerald's 1933 novel Tender Is the Night, the hotel is called Hôtel des Étrangers. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor stayed here frequently after the abdication. In 1969, Rudolf August and Maja Oetker bought the hotel, and in 1987 it was given its current name. Today it holds Palace status, the highest classification from Atout France.

The waves on the walls – Patricia Anastassiadis's room

When the hotel reopened in July 2020, Louroc had received new interior design by the Brazilian interior architect Patricia Anastassiadis. According to Galerie Magazine, she designed panels of corrugated wood meant to resemble the waves, in a palette of cream, blue and grey. Touches of coral are meant to evoke the sunset over the horizon.

The old was allowed to remain. The room's original trompe l'oeil paintings and the high arched vaults were preserved, and the furniture – with names like Riviera, Eden-Roc and Audrey – was made specially for the hotel. In the evening, the restaurant changes character with a different menu and a different table setting than at lunch.

Sébastien Broda – trained on the Riviera

The head chef is Sébastien Broda, who joined Louroc in 2019 and became the hotel's executive chef the following year. His entire career has unfolded along this coast: Le Martinez under Christian Willer, L'Amandier under Roger Vergé, Carlton and Grand Hôtel in Cannes, and Le Jarrier in Biot.

He describes Louroc as the expression of nature and its materials, and according to the Guide Michelin, the cuisine is built on vegetables from local growers, fish from small-scale fishing, and meat that is sourced to order. The flavours are Provence and the Mediterranean.

Broda took over from a legend in the house. Arnaud Poëtte came to the hotel as a 22-year-old sauce chef on 27 March 1983 and eventually became its executive chef. He stayed for 39 years. According to the hotel, Louroc has held its star since 2021.

A hotel that values its tranquillity

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is known for protecting its guests' privacy, and recently the hotel put a stop to influencers' photo shoots. It's part of the same stance that makes a dinner at Louroc a quiet evening rather than an event.
