Every table and hotel the MICHELIN inspectors have chosen in Cap-d'Ail – 10 starred, 9 more restaurants and 8 hotels – on one map, with our own stories as we write them.
Start at Plage Marquet and follow the coastal path west past the Pointe des Douaniers, with interpretation panels on the rare plants, Belle Époque gardens and the sea at your feet; the first stretch is flat enough for pushchairs.
Mediterranean dishes and meat and fish from the Josper wood oven at the tip of the port, in the dining room or on the veranda facing the open sea; dinner 19:00–22:00, every day.
Pick up the 'my Adventure' game at the tourist office (open Saturdays 09:00–13:00) and chase the pieces of a lost film reel through Cap-d'Ail's streets – €15 for a group of up to six, with a charged phone.
A few minutes west along the coast, climb from Èze-sur-Mer to the perched village of Èze on the path where Nietzsche wrote part of 'Zarathustra' – 2.1 km, about an hour and 400 m of ascent, not for small children.
Drive up to the Parc de la Grande Corniche above Èze: the Maison de la Nature (Wednesday–Sunday, 09:30–12:30 and 13:30–17:00) hands out a free 12-stage family nature game, and the fort's terraces look down on Èze and Cap Ferrat.
The town museum in a Belle Époque villa: old photographs of Cap-d'Ail life and the Basque painter Ramiro Arrue; Sundays 10:00–16:00 from November (11:00–18:00 until 31 October); €9, free under 12.
Finish in the seaside park near the playwright's villa, planted with Mediterranean trees for a slow walk or a read; open 08:00–18:00 from October to April.
