Château Gaillard
Richard the Lionheart's fortress of 1198, built in record time to bar the Seine upstream of Rouen; Philippe Auguste took it in 1204, bringing Normandy into the kingdom of France. The reward for the climb is a view over one of the finest loops of the Seine.
