Time
Medieval times in Old town: 45 minutes
Difficulty
Easy but uneven – hills, stairs and cobblestones
Start
Riksplan on Helgeandsholmen (for 'Medieval times in Old town'), or the main door of Storkyrkan (for 'The Rats in Old town')
Past
Riksplan and Stora Gråmunkegränd, Kåkbrinken and Prästgatan, Storkyrkan, its door on Trångsund and the churchyard, Bollhustäppan by the Finnish Church, Köpmangatan and Mårten Trotzigs gränd, Södra Benickebrinken
Season
All year, any time – the lanes are open; bring a charged phone and headphones.
With children
Both are free audio guides made for children and families by Stockholm City Museum and the Medieval Museum – one tells of sauna baths, bagpipes, shipwreck treasure, kings and grey friars; in the other, children help the little rat Lillan find her family among dragons, mermaids and talking statues. You follow them on your phone with location services on.
