In the heart of Val d'Isère, close to the bell tower of the Église Saint Bernard, Le K2 Chogori wears its name like a credential. Chogori is the Balti word for K2, the world's second-highest mountain, and the hotel borrows its whole vocabulary from the mountain's own mythology: a restaurant named after K2's notorious Bottleneck passage, a bar called Le 1954. Built as a double chalet and opened by the Capezzone family in 2021, it is the fourth address from a family already established in Courchevel 1850 with Le K2 Palace, Le K2 Altitude and Le K2 Djola. Twenty-one rooms and suites, Tibetan-inflected interiors of stone, wood and slate, and a Goji Spa by Nescens make the case for a five-star stay built on family continuity rather than imported brand polish. The MICHELIN Guide gives it Two Keys.

Le K2 Chogori sits in the historic heart of Val d'Isère, a short walk from the lifts and the 300km Val d'Isère–Tignes ski area.
01The house
The Capezzone family had already spent some twenty-five years building a reputation in Courchevel, where Le K2 Palace, Le K2 Altitude and Le K2 Djola carry the same signature. In 2021 the family opened a new chapter in Val d'Isère with Le K2 Chogori, a hotel conceived as a return to the resort where their own family grew up.
The project was designed by Capezzone Architecture, with Thomas Capezzone as head of development, Sylvain Giachino and Clémence Thimonier as architects and Mélanie Dunand as interior architect. The 3,000 sqm double chalet was delivered in December 2020 after seven months of construction, and the two buildings are linked by an internal corridor so guests never have to step outside between them.
The hotel's name is itself a piece of mountaineering history: Chogori means "big mountain" in the Balti language, the name given to K2 by the villages at its base. Inside, the aesthetic follows the same logic that runs through the whole Le K2 Collections group, with stone, wood and slate used in a way that respects Val d'Isère's own architectural tradition while nodding to Tibetan and Himalayan references throughout the décor.
02Rooms and suites
The 21 rooms and suites are carved from nine original suite-apartments, including two penthouses, which can be configured in different ways to sleep anywhere from two to six guests. Inside, elegant brushed wood lines the walls, a deliberate echo of the alpine chalet rather than a generic luxury template.
Insider tipOpen through the winter season, mid-December to mid-April, with an on-site ski shop and Goji Spa.
The Chogori Suite, one of the standard configurations, runs to 88 sqm with a walk-in wardrobe and desk, a living and dining room, a double-sink bathroom with bath and shower, and a balcony looking over the village and the church of Val d'Isère.
At the top end, the Himalaya Suite spans 171 sqm across three bedrooms with balconies facing Solaise, while the Penthouses start from 120 sqm with two bedrooms each and large balconies giving panoramic views over the village, Solaise and the black run of La Face de Bellevarde.
03Where to eat
Dinner happens at Le Bottleneck, named after the perilous passage just below K2's summit, where executive chef Bastien Paysant now oversees his second season in Val d'Isère. The kitchen works meat, fish and vegetables over an open flame, then extends the evening with a selection of cheese fondues developed with Bernard Mure-Ravaud, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France cheesemonger.
Pastry comes from Marc-André Guerquin-Kern, Executive Pastry Chef across Le K2 Collections, who reworks the classics of French pâtisserie with his own contemporary register, closing an "intimate, cozy, and refined" dining room in the heart of the village.
04The bar
The hotel's bar, Le 1954, takes its name from the year K2 was first climbed. It is the room for aperitifs, spirits, wine, champagne and cocktails before or after dinner, a quieter counterpoint to the restaurant next door and a natural place to end a day on the slopes.
05Spa and wellbeing
The Goji Spa by Nescens takes its name from the small Himalayan berry prized as a "red diamond" for its benefits, and the same spa concept runs through every Le K2 Collections property. Facilities include a 12-metre indoor pool set in stone and gilded surfaces, a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and two treatment cabins for face, body, hand and foot treatments, alongside a gym and a hairdressing salon.
Treatments are built around hydrotherapy and tailored massage, with the spa positioned as the obvious counterweight to a day spent on Val d'Isère's slopes.
06The neighbourhood
Le K2 Chogori stands in the historic centre of Val d'Isère, within sight of the bell tower of the Église Saint Bernard and a short walk from the lifts. The resort itself sits at 1,850 metres at the edge of the Vanoise National Park, with more than 300 kilometres of linked pistes running up to 3,000 metres shared with Tignes.
A ski shop and ski room inside the hotel let guests collect the latest equipment before heading out, so the transition from lobby to lift line stays as short as the walk itself.
07Making the most of a stay
Le K2 Chogori is a member of Leading Hotels of the World, and families are well catered for with a dedicated Kids Klub for children and teenagers alongside the hotel's own ski shop and storage room. The hotel follows the resort's winter calendar, opening from mid-December to mid-April each season.
Given the scale, just 21 rooms and suites across two linked chalets, this is a house better suited to a week built around the mountain than a flying weekend visit.
