The Royal-Riviera was built in 1904, during the years when the Riviera was Europe's winter salon and the great hotels were springing up along the coast. The Michelin Guide describes it as a grand hôtel from the Belle Époque, where the historic atmosphere has largely been preserved, with a few modern touches from a later renovation.

The hotel is located at the entrance to the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, between Villefranche and Beaulieu. It has five stars and 94 rooms, and it holds one Key in the Guide Michelin's hotel selection.

01The main building and Villa l'Orangerie

The rooms are divided between the original building and the newer Villa l'Orangerie. According to Michelin, many rooms in the main building have sea views, while the rooms in the orangery are quieter and have a balcony or terrace facing the pool and garden. The décor blends old and new.

The garden is laid out in Renaissance style and, together with the pool, forms the hotel's outdoor space. This is where the days are spent when not on the beach.

02A private sandy beach

The Royal-Riviera has its own sandy beach, where guests can also try their hand at water sports. The hotel also has a Thalgo spa.

03La Table du Royal and Jasmin Grill

The hotel's gastronomic restaurant is called La Table du Royal. Michelin describes a cuisine of modern French classics made with local produce, with touches from the Mediterranean. By the pool is Jasmin Grill, which serves Indian dishes from a tandoor oven alongside Mediterranean cuisine.

04Around Cap-Ferrat

From the hotel, you can reach the peninsula's most famous address, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild with its gardens, and the coastal paths around the headland – see Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in a day. In the neighbouring town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villa Kérylos sits by the water, and on the other side lies Villefranche-sur-Mer with its bay. More Riviera destinations are at metromode.co.

05How to make the most of a stay at the Royal-Riviera
