Two palaces, one old monastery, a village by Mont Ventoux and vineyards with rooms. Eight hotels in inland Provence, from Gordes to Forcalquier, in facts.

  2. The Alpilles and Avignon
  3. The Luberon and Mont Ventoux

Inland Provence has its own hotel tradition. This rarely involves large hotels by the sea, but rather old farmhouses, monasteries and village houses that have been converted into hotels, often with their own vineyards, olive groves and kitchen gardens. Many are located in the Luberon and the Alpilles, a few hours' journey from the Riviera but in an entirely different landscape.

Here are eight properties that are often mentioned when Provence's best country hotels are listed. We describe what we can substantiate – location, distinctions and what makes the property special. Prices, number of rooms and seasons change and are available from the hotels themselves. The property market in the villages can be found on VERA PI's map of Vaucluse.
